             What is BCA (full form of BCA)

Bachelor of Computer Applications or BCA is a new age customized degree course for Students, wishing to make a career in the field of computer and Information Technology and is one of the most upcoming courses in India . The duration of the course is three years, usually divided into six semesters; in some institutions, in three yearly terms. The course provides a sound academic base from  which an advanced career in computer Applications can be developed . Students in BCA stream are taught programming languages, algorithm design and optimization, networking, database, structures and data base management and many more. After having completed BCA, students can opt for MCA (Masters of Computer Applications) or MBA in Information Technology or can pursue a job.

The BCA course is offered by top rated collages and Universities in India. Admission to the course is given through an entrance examination, which is administered by the institution itself, offering the course. There is nothing like any centralized BCA entrance test in India, so far. Some universities like GGSIPU take admissions only on the basis of the written tests, where as some institutions also have group Discussions (GD) ad personal Interviews (PI), as a process for admission.

     Career after BCA

If one wishes to become Computer Programmer or Software Developer or wants to take up a career in System Management, then BCA is the best course to get an early start for his/her career. job opportunities can be found in both large and small software development organizations, as well as in hardware companies . Even if a BCA graduate is interested  in teaching industry, he/she can look for faculty position in Computer Applications and Computer  Science.

BCA graduates may start their career as a junior Programmer and get promoted to the post of Senior Programmer &Projects Managers in the IT sector. While some companies select fresh BCA graduates &train them to meet their requirements, some other select only experienced BCA candidates with programming abilities &knowledge. Since, the jobs are related to IT based industries, they can hope for an attractive salary package. However, the salaries of BCA graduates are subject t the conditions and needs of the IT market and are based on the skills of the individual candidates. 

The revised NASSCOM (National Association of Software &Services Companies) estimates that India 

 would require 10,00,000 trained software professionals in next few years. The present availability of such skilled people is only 35%  of the required amount & quality. So it can be concluded that this sector is going to provide employment to a large number of such professionals in near future 

    Eligibility Criteria


1.     10+2 or equivalent from a recognized education board, usually in Science or Commerce or                      Humanities with Mathematics/Statistics/ business maths as a subject.     

                                     OR

2.    3 year diploma from a state Board of Technical Education.

3.    Some institutions also require a particular percentage of marks (45-50%) as a pre- requisite for               admission to BCA course. 

4.   Final year candidates may also appear for the entrance exams, but their admission is subject to their pass in class XII exams.

  Examination Pattern


One thing should be clearly understood that as the institute:, imparting BCA course conduct their individua entrance programs, there is no centralized examination pattern for BCA entrances. 

However, most of the BCA entrance examinations in India test a candidate on the basis of following subject 

English Language and Comprehension

Mathematics 

Logical ability & Reasoning 

Computer Awareness & IT

General Knowledge 

All over the examination is of objective type, on a multiple choice question. Generally, the numbers of questions vary between 150-200, to be answered, usually in 2 or 2 & 1/2 hrs, depending on the institution. 

The type of questions, in genera, include true, on false, fill in the blanks, short answer type questions etc. and the level of the examinations varies between X-XII standard, depending on he institution. For example, the GGSIPU's BCA Entrance Exam syllabus covers XII  standard Maths , Computer Basics, General Aptitude, General English & General Knowledge. --
